Once upon a Sydney wandering…

The other day I was going through some of the pictures on my computer.

Looking back at those photos brings back all kinds of wonderful memories so I thought I would share some of them.

This one is from wandering around one of my absolute favorite places in the world, the Sydney Botanical Gardens.

It was about a 30 min train ride from where I lived in the suburbs to downtown Sydney. I would try to go as often as I could and wander about the city, but when I just needed a bit of nature I would go to the gardens. In the midst of a busy and sometimes chaotic city, the gardens are place to get away from it all. It’s about 158 acres with 8,900 different types of plant species. It’s a wonderful place to wander about when you just need to see something beautiful.

I miss this city more than I can put into words. When I finally decide to put some roots down this is the one place that I would be okay to do so in. I know that one day I will return again but for now, I treasure these pictures and memories.

I f*cking hate cancer

(My apologies for the language but I’m just being honest)

My father has recently been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Although this is not his first time battling cancer, this time it’s a bit more serious. This past week he has been at one of the cancer treatment centers of America. Thankfully I had the privilege of going up to spend some time with both of my parents. They live in Las Vegas and I live in Nashville. I have not had the chance to go back to Vegas since April. So now that they were in my time zone I had to go.Upon arriving I met up with them at the treatment center. As he was finishing his day of tests, I got to see the facility and meet some of the employees. I must say though, I am impressed with the center & it’s staff. It appears to me that they actually care for their patients.

As we walked around I saw all kinds of people who are battling this horrible disease. Any and all forms of cancer being treated. It broke my heart and at the same time pissed me off to see all these poor people going through this. Time and time again we encountered precious people that have been misdiagnosed and felt l like their doctors did not care about them.
So many people I know have had relatives or friends that have been affected by cancer in some way or another.
I feel like it just shouldn’t be like this. I am no doctor or medical professional but there has to be a way to end this madness.
It takes a toll on everyone involved.

If you are one walking through this, know that you are not alone. That there are hundreds if not thousands of people who understand what you are going through. If you happen to believe in God (or even if you dont) know that He is still in control. That even though this is absolute crap, He’s still got it. He’s been in control since the beginning of time, so why would He change now? Why would He go back on His good character? I can tell you, that He wont.
Yes all of this frustrates the living hell out of me. I don’t understand, how or why. It’s stressful and at times I do find myself breaking down, but at the end of the day, all I can do is trust Him. He’s been faithful this far. He’s brought me through some of the craziest and darkest times of my life. I’ve lived through more crap in my short life than most people I know. And yet, it all works out. In one way or another. I have come to terms with the fact that there are some things that I have been through that i will never understand. But honestly, its not my place to understand. Its my job to trust.
It is so much easier said than done. There are times that i just want to throw in the towel and tap out. Sometimes, i just want to run away and never return, but…that’s not really an option.
I’ve had a couple of people ask me how it was that I was handling all of this so well. I’ve told them it’s because I’ve been through a lot in life, which to some degree has made me strong, but the real answer is my faith.

That’s all that I have.

This is one of the hardest things to walk through, and all I have are mere words, but as someone who has a loved one going through this, all I can do is say don’t lose hope. Hold on strong. Treasure every moment and know, you are not alone.

#WanderlustWednesday:Montana

I’m not so sure as to why, but I really want to go to Montana.
I know that it is not some exotic location to most people but there is something about the Big Sky state that I would love to just wander around.

Maybe its the open fields, maybe its the roaming bison or quite possibly it’s the fact that you can go on a llama trek…whatever it may be, there is something about this state that draws me towards it.

#WanderlustWednesday: Portugal

I know that I’ve been slacking on my Wanderlust Wednesday’s but here we go again.

The other day at work we had some guests from Portugal. Those two guys were two of the most handsome men that I have ever seen. I mean, I’ve wanted to go to Portugal anyways but after meeting those two, it was a done deal. I must go to Portugal.

Portugal is in southern Europe next to Spain. Portugal is slightly smaller in size than the state of Indiana. It is said that Portugal is like a sample of European landscapes, history and  cultures. You have everything from medieval castles to beautiful beaches to mountain slopes to villages with cobblestone roads and cities that captivate your heart.

I have yet to go but Portugal has definitely moved up on my list to go!

LET’S GO!!!!

Chi Town Memories

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I drove up to Chicago on our way to a music festival in Michigan. Being that we were only going to be about 2 hours away from Chicago, and never had gone, we had to make a detour.

We only had a few hours to wander around, but that was enough to win me over. I quickly fell in love with Chicago.

So I dragged Kriti with me and off we went to roam about.

My absolute favorite thing in the world is to wander around cities. Leave me downtown somewhere and let me explore. Turning down random streets, wandering about, just to see what you’ll run into and find. That right there makes my heart the happiest. Add some amazing food in the mix and I’m in heaven. For lunch we ate at XOCO, which is one of Rick Bayless’ restaurants.  Then we ate at RPM Italian, which is owned by Bill & Giuliana Rancic. Do yourself a favor and stop by both places. I was seriously in food heaven. My stomach and heart were so happy (and full) by the time we left. I can’t even explain how excited I was, you’ll just have to ask Kristi one of these days.

All that to say, I love Chicago and I cannot wait to go back and actually spend some quality time around the Windy City. (And of course, catch a basketball game )
