It’s been a minute, hey.
To say it’s been a crazy, whirlwind, hellish year is truly an understatement. But here we are, July is sneaking in and to be quite honest, I can’t wait for this year to be over. But enough of the sob story.
Lately, I have actually been in a bit of a baking craze. Don’t ask me why but baking on the weekend has been my creative outlet. It’s one thing that truly brings me joy. Now, I’m not really a fan of eating the pies (that’s where the friends & fam come in) but I truly love making them.

If you’ve read most of my other posts you may be able to tell that I am a bit of a foodie.
I hope not to be an obnoxious one, but I truly do love and appreciate all types of food. I also believe that food shapes and influences every culture in the world. You cannot fully experience a location without trying its local cuisine. Every place has some sort of plate or recipe that is special and tells a story. Whether its a common dish or something a little more unique for special occasions it all has a unique part in shaping a culture.
Food has the ability to unite people in an incredible way.Therefore, I have decided to add some recipes to the blog.
I do not have a specific type of cuisine that is my absolute favorite. I genuinely love and appreciate a little bit of everything. Lately I have found myself making homemade ramen from scratch to butter chicken to a Spanish inspired pizza. I do get quite a bit of inspiration from other blogs and cookbooks but I tend to add my own little twist whether its due to the ingredients that I have or just because I like to do things my own way. I tend to post pictures on Instagram (of course) but I feel like I want to do a little more than that.
So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. This is something that I am truly passionate about and of course, it’s always fun to do something new.

Being that I am quite a fan of wine…and food…the Napa Valley has been on my list for years. I literally driven from the top to the very bottom of California yet I have never been to Napa.
Of course, the Napa Valley is known for its wineries. It is one of the premier wine regions in the world. Wine production dates back to the 19th century.
With its mediterranean climate, its geography & geology, it has all that it needs to be an incredible environment for producing wine.
Yet there is much more to Napa than just sipping wine all day.
The Napa Valley houses some the the top chefs in the worlds restaurants. When I think of Napa, Thomas Keller comes to mind. Eating at the French Laundry is an absolute dream of mine. I have yet to have the privileged to eat at one of his restaurants but whilst i was living with a family in Australia, they hosted a 12 course meal that was based off of the recipes from the French Laundry. i thought i had died and went to heaven when we had the sea bass over spinach with the saffron vanilla sauce. It may sound a bit odd, but that sauce is life changing. Since that day, i have made it a goal of mine to dine there. Eating in the Napa Valley is am experience of its own.
Although food and wine are what draw most people in, there is much more to the area. If you are more of an outdoor enthusiast there are thousands of acres in which to hike and camp in. You could also go kayaking or white water rafting if you want something a little more adventurous. Driving and bike tours around the area are also quite popular to take in the sights. Of if you’re more of the spa and relax type of fan there are sever natural hot springs and thermal geysers to go soak in around some very luxurious resorts/spas.
I feel like the Napa Valley is one of the closest places that we have here in the States to the actual Mediterranean . Give me some good food & amazing wine in a beautiful location and happy I will be.

I’ve come to realize that most of the places that I have chosen for my #WanderlustWednesday are mainly based around the food of the region which in turn leads me to wanting to explore that particular city/country.
This week is no different.
Kyoto, Japan has recently been added to my list. Kyoto is located in the central part of Japan. It is one of the best preserved cities in the country after WWII. They city was formerly the imperical capital of Japan. it was originally designed with a Chinese Feng Shui design.
Kyoto holds 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is also know as the “City of Ten Thousand Shrines”. Among all of its shrines it also hosts many gardens throughout the city that draw people in from all over the world. I would love to go during the spring time when all the cherry blossoms are in bloom and then again in the autumn to see all the beautiful colors of the trees surrounding Kyoto.
Although I absolutely love gardens and would like to see the old world charm of Kyoto, I really want to go for the food. It is known for its abundance of Japanese food. The regionis famous for what is known as Kyo-ryori, which is a way in which food is cooked with minimal seasoning to bring out flavors & elements of the fresh seasonal ingredients presented in a beautiful manner in which to be able to enjoy the foor not just with the flavor but also with all of your other senses.
You can’t really talk about Kyoto without mentioning the Nishiki Market. It has been around since the 1600’s. Its four blocks with hundreds of shops from Japanese pickle shops to seafood vendors, Japanese pottery and spices shops. I’ve also heard that one must go to Ponto-cho, which is the geisha district of Kyoto which is an alley filled with great restaurants.

I have had a fascination with Spain for years.
Year after year I would hear of how amazing the culture is and beautiful of a place it truly is. One of my Spanish teachers in high school would always talk of Spain and every other year she would take a group of students. Unfortunately my family moved before I was able to join one of those groups. A couple of weeks ago, I met a girl around my age in Chicago that lives in Spain. She has always had a love for the country and then a few years ago she moved to Spain and absolutely loves it. I know the feeling and I’m dying to experience it again…but thats a different story.
Maybe its the food (i would just about kill for some good paella) or the beautiful landscape or quite possibly that most Spanish men are beautiful (i mean, did you not watch the world cup at all this summer). So, I’ll start with San Sebastian for my first post for Spain.
San Sebastian is on the northern coast of Spain about 12 miles from the border with France. Its a small city with some of the best beaches in Europe. It is a town full of culture and history but the biggest reason that I want to go to San Sebastian is for the food.
It is said that there are more Michelin stars per square foot than any other place in the world. Two of the top ten restaurants in the world also happen to be in San Sebastian. This region has had a huge influence in the whole gastronomy scene within the past few years. Although I am a fan of fancy meals, I am always down for some tapas or pintxos, as they are called in this region. Most people go from bar to bar, enjoy a few pintxos and drinks at each location. I mean, put me by the ocean and give me some awesome food within a beautiful city…well, that pretty much spells perfection to me.
